CPCU BOARD MEETING NOTES

April 4, 2003

Attendees: Sharyn Prime, Brian Wood, Bernie Nachtrab, Bob Nottingham, Stephan Perry, Jim Henry, Julie Kadnar, Bob Braun, and Diane Richardson

The meeting began at 7:34.

Review of 3/07/03 minutes: The minutes were approved.

Treasurer's Report:
Bernie reporting.

The dues check has been received from National; we have made a contribution to Loman as approved. I-Day income projected at $24,000 with about 200 attendees. There were two Great American cancellations.
On the scholarship fund-we have lost money because of the stock market performance. Can we afford another $3,000? If we give that amount we will be losing money. The applications are due in May 15th. Brian asked if we could wait until after I-Day and discuss at the May meeting. We would then have an idea as to profit and at that point some money could go to scholarships. Bernie said it depended on profit; some could go to participating charities and the rest to the scholarship fund. Bob said we could even wait until the summer since he had just told people we were giving out scholarships but not how many. Discussion was tabled until May.

Up-date on I-Day:
Brian reporting:

Things were going well overall. We paid for seven business phone lines at $1,000; luckily we had budgeted $3,000. Ron Eveleigh should have a head count later today. There are twenty-two vendors. Some are complimentary like CPCU and Insuring the Children. Bengal John Thornton's charity for the split-the-pot is the Autism Society of Cincinnati. One-half goes to them, and the other to Insuring the Children. The prize to the individual winner is a signed football (there are three of these). Marvin Lewis, Bengals Head Coach, will present Insurance Person of the Year. John Thornton will pull tickets for the vendor giveaways.
Kathy Fields of Cincinnati Financial is printing programs; we would like to give her a gift certificate in appreciation.
Sharyn noted that as far as helping the other participating organizations were not very good.

Membership:
Steve reporting.

More dues have come in since the last meeting.

Good Works:
Nancy Moore reporting via e-mail.

Nancy sent scholarship forms to ninety-plus high schools several weeks ago and has received only one response so far. She expects to receive more closer to the deadline. The breakdown of money is: CPCU, $500; IWOGC, $300; NKAIW, $100; NKIAA, $100; and MVIW, $100. The CIB is not participating. IWOGC is hosting the awards and appreciation night at the Metropolitan Club and dinner is $30, so Nancy is not pushing attendance. We plan to give four prizes: $500, $300, and two at $150. Jim Meyer of CPCU has agreed to judge but we have no info on whom the other groups have selected.
We have had only one response about volunteering for Action Auction. Nancy suggests that the request came in too late to get much response. Perhaps in the next Members' Poll we can include a segment on good works to establish interest level for community activities: those we now engage in, those we used to engage in, and any other recommendations.
Nancy has a call in to the fire chief in Miami Twp. Regarding contribution to the lock boxes; if she gets a return call prior to the meeting she will let us know so we can vote; if not we can either take a computer vote or wait until the next meeting.

Education:
Dorothy Glancy reporting via e-mail.

Rick Rieger has talked to two students from Ohio Casualty and to another from Amica. A class will begin at Amica beginning in late August. Dorothy sent Rick a list of 19 names who have expressed interest in CPCU classes. There are ten from Cincinnati Financial. Not all of them were requesting accounting. Rick will contact Dorothy in a few months and together they will call those who expressed interest to see if they would like to attend the class at Amica. Dorothy will file for CE from Experior.

Programs Report:
Jim reporting.

A reminder about the golf outing.

ProjectInvest and Insurance Education Foundation:

Nothing in from Jon Florer. Sharyn will try to get something going. Brian said the local contact for Ins. Ed. Foundation is Ken Durr; he will contact him.

Circle of Excellence:
A reminder!!! Get write-ups of projects you have managed to Sharyn by the first week of May for submission to National!!!

New Business:

We are tentatively planning the 2003 conferment ceremony date for November 11th, 12th, or 13th at the Sharonville Convention Center.
Bob Nottingham reported that the web site domain name was renewed. There is a problem with credit card use over the site.

The meeting adjourned at 8:10.
The next meeting will be MAY 16th at State Auto. (Note the change from the first Friday in the month.)
