CPCU BOARD MEETING NOTES
March 7, 2003
Attendees: Sharyn Prime, Brian Wood, Bernie Nachtrab,
Bob Nottingham, Stephan Perry, and Diane Richardson
The meeting began at 7:31.
Review of 2/07/03 minutes: The minutes were approved.
Treasurer's Report:
Bernie reporting.
The report does not yet reflect check from National.
Our tax ID is 13-422419.
Up-date on I-Day:
Brian reporting:
I-Day money-to date, about $3,175 from exhibitors.
So far we have fourteen and hope to get twenty. Four are complimentary-NAIW,
RES, IIAA, and NIIA. Sandy Masters cannot come from CPCU but will ship
brochures, etc. Diane Richardson agreed to cover the CPCU table.
We've gotten about $400 for program ads so far. We budgeted $2250 for
sponsorships; we have $5250 and expect another $1,000 from Progressive.
We sent a check for $1,500 to Paul Brown Stadium We have about $1,000
in revenue so far.
Brian said that Jo Schwerling of the Agents Association has done a lot
of work. But, the problem with the I-Day Committee is that CPCU has
done the bulk of the work but the other organizations are wanting the
profit to stay for I-Day next year. CIB has only served as a conduit
for the money. NAIW will work registration, but won't do any of the
calling, etc. We agreed that because of this the profit should continue
with the Chapter.
Brian noted about thirty plus will be attending from Cincinnati Insurance.
We will break even if there are fewer than 200 attendees.
There has been only one name submitted for Insurance Professional of
the Year. Send some names in!
Marvin Lewis and another Bengal will be there doing a split the pot
raffle. Proceeds go to Insuring the Children and a charity of the player's
choice.
Membership:
Steve reporting.
It's time to chase people down for dues. We divided
up the list to do some contacting. Steve reported that there were 381
paid and 128 nonpaid. Seventy were first time nonpay; sixty have been
lapsed over a year. We got in $14,360 from national.
Good Works:
Nancy Moore reporting via e-mail.
Nancy purchased and delivered hats and gloves to
Valley Interfaith Food and Clothing Shelter. There were also donations
of coats from the Personal Lines Dept. at Indiana Ins. Co. She will
be requesting money for the hats, gloves, and a roll of stamps.
The Scholarship notice is to be mailed this week. Participating groups
are CPCU ($500), IWOGC ($300), NKAIW ($100), and NKIAA ($100). CIB is
not participating; a survey of their members found little value to them.
So far no response from MVIW; if Nancy does not hear from them by Friday
we will go without them.
Nancy is planning to check on purchase of lock boxes for elderly emergencies
but has been really busy.
Education:
Dorothy Glancy reporting.
Dorothy will call Rick Rieger to set up a class for
the accounting CPCU. We will need to apply for CE. Sharyn got a call
from OC and they have eight to ten people to start CPCU. Bernie will
contact them regarding instructors.
Programs Report:
Sharyn reporting.
On March 13th Pastor Lipsey will speak at Four Point
Sheraton. We will send the same honorarium as we did last year. Talk
this up in the office since we don't have many signed up.
New Business:
Re: the Loman Fund. A move to send a check for $500 was approved. This
gets us to the Loman Club Level.
The Insurance Education Foundation request for funds was brought up.
We could get a match from Loman and it will apply to the Circle of Excellence,
but we are concerned that there is no local value. Brian will call to
see if they would look for a local teacher or, if not, send us the materials
and we will look for one.
The topic of the National Leadership Summit was next. Do we want to
send money for the reception, breakfast, etc? We decided we'd rather
spend the money locally. What about sending participants? Brian doesn't
mind going and asked Julie if she'd like to go. Sharyn could go for
the front-end conference for two days. For the next meeting, think about
getting younger members involved. Sharyn will contact Jim Henry and
Nancy Moore to see if they'd like to go.
Bernie noted the contract between CPCU and CIB has been executed. Name
tags for I-Day are supposed to be printed from Ron's data base. Bernie
is getting calls from companies asking about "table" discounts.
A reminder-there are none, just tickets to get in the chow line.
For next time: the Circle of Excellence report needs to go in so send
information to Sharyn on what we've been doing by May 31.
The meeting adjourned at 9:15. The next meeting is April 4th at State
Auto.
