Board Meeting Minutes
November 1, 2002

Attendees: Sharyn Prime, Bob Braun, Brian Wood, Julie Kadner, Jon Florer, Diane Richardson, Stephan Perry, Bernie Nachtrab, Bob Nottingham

Sharyn called the meeting to order at 7:40 A.M.

The minutes of the September October 11th meeting were approved.

Treasurer's Report:
Bernie reporting.

The Chapter is ahead on its budget because of Malecki's program. Would we do a special recognition to Don Malecki at the Nov. 12th dinner? The following checks were approved: $500 to reserve our spot at the Paul Brown Stadium for I-Day; $820 for Insuring the Children; an additional $500 to Insuring the Children resulting from the Golf Outing profit; $1,000 to the Catherine Salter Memorial Fund. Would someone be at the Nov. 12th dinner to accept the check? Stephan said no one would, but we will mention this at the meeting. Stephan will send Bernie the address for the check.
The books are undergoing tax preparation and should be ready for filing Nov. 15th.

Project Invest:
Jon Florer reporting.

At present there is nothing in Ohio, but the program is starting in Cleveland. Westfield is sponsoring. The program is a way to develop a talent pool and educated consumers of tomorrow. There is an entire curriculum provided. Any school with business courses-vocational schools are a definite possibility-could use this. It does not appear that there would be any expense for us. Loman would match scholarships for the program. Jon would like to review the video provided and will go to schools and agents to present it. Several companies are already behind Project Invest: Ohio Casualty, IVANS, etc. Sharyn said that in Rochester students would go to an agency and shadow an employee. Some went on to becoming employees. The publicity was good.
Sharyn asked if any agents would help with this and Jon said he knows of one that could be a contact in Georgetown at the vocational school.

I-Day:
Brian Wood reporting.

Brian has topics and speakers for three different sessions. One addresses the specialty market place-the Risk Management Society has external sources. Jack Fries will speak on guaranteeing future growth; this is targeted at agents. Motivational speaker Beau Schaefer's topic will be "Better Than I Deserve."
There will be a social hour at the end of the day. An extra-curricular activity is still open, but the purpose is to keep people together without having to drive somewhere, so that eliminates some options. Sharyn noted that in Rochester they made arrangements to gather at a local bar.
If we have vendors at $300 per booth we should make a profit.
Other groups are now actually participating in the discussion.

Programs Update:
Jim Henry is out of town.

Circle of Excellence Update:
Sharyn and others reporting.

Sharyn explained what we had done with respect to the Circle of Excellence list. Bernie said he would review the list and pick an activity.
Sharyn asked if we needed address labels from National-no. We have a CPD excellence banner and bronze award to display. Brian Wood went to the National Meeting.

November 12th Dinner and Party

Julie has made centerpieces. Bob will get stickers to put under the chairs (person sitting there gets the centerpiece). Jim Nau is driving over from Indianapolis; he has to leave early to catch a plane. Someone from ITC will give the three grants to the receiving organizations.
The programs will be done; they will include a listing of past presidents, new designees, and board members.
Sharyn gave Bruce Wilburn a tentative start time of 8:30.
There is no head table, but there will be some reserved tables and the podium. We need a registration table and a way to distribute the gifts, which were arriving today.
Bob will ask Jerry Clark to give the invocation.
Set-up time is 4:30 to 4:45.

Miscellaneous:

Another Chaptergram is going out; please get something the week of the 11th to Patsy Rehe.
Brian commented on the powerpoint presentation he had received from Larry in the IT section. Bernie said it took forever to download; those of us without powerpoint can't open it at all. Bob suggested it might go on our Web site with a link; something like "Interested in joining a section? Click here…" Brian will call Larry to see about an article for the November Chaptergram.
Our own Web site has a link to National.

The meeting adjourned at 8:30; the next meeting will be December 6th at 7:30.
