CPCU BOARD MEETING NOTES

November 7, 2003

Attendees: Steve Smith, Jim Henry, Julie Kadnar, Brian Wood, Rex Fledderjohn, Dorothy Glancy, Bob Braun, Bernie Nachtrab, Nancy Moore, and Diane Richardson

The meeting began at 7:40.

1. Review of Minutes: The minutes were approved.

2. Board/Chair Reports:

Dorothy Glancy, Education, has been contacted by Paul Goodson, P&G Consulting, who asked if we'd put his classes on our Web page. The company furnishes links and materials. The cost is $4,700 to put up five modules; the user can link to CE credits. The cost is $10 per user. We had a question as to whether he could put CPCU material up; the consensus was that he probably could not. We need to check with Ron Eveleigh (CIB) to see if Ohio allows electronic CE.
Indiana Insurance has in-house learning but it is not open to outsiders. We determined a good addition to the Chapter Web site would be a list of companies offering classes to: a) employees, and b) outsiders.

3. Nov. 11th Program

Jim Henry, Programs, deferred to Bob Braun, Scholarships, who announced that the three recipients: Matthew Sharp from Wittenberg University, and Billy Guy and Jennifer Gray from Indiana State, would be attending the November 11th New Designee Dinner.
Jim said that there would be around 100 attendees. Nancy Moore, assisted by Julie Kadnar, will do the raffle to benefit our Good Works program, "Adopt a Family" for Christmas through Valley Interfaith. We have donated items signed by Ken Griffey Jr.
Attire is "business." Someone asked if the new designee nametags could have something to distinguish them, such as a sticker or ribbon.
The agenda for the dinner: reception (cash bar), invocation and dinner.
We'll plan to have Jim Breech speak after dinner, but if he's running late we may do the conferment first. Hugh McGowan will do the conferment.
Bob Braun will present the scholarships.
We will present the check to Insuring the Children.
Then, recognition of Past Presidents followed by the raffle.
Julie Kadnar agreed to look for gifts for the new designees.
Jim said that "A View From the Top" will be in conjunction with the Risk Education Society, probably in late January. He would like to have a small educational meeting to be determined. Xavier has a program in ethics which he's trying to get.

Nancy Moore, Good Works, noted that the money from the raffle will go to "Adopt a Family." Last year's contribution was only $75 because we did a "split the pot," but because this year we're having a raffle there should be more. We usually get Kroger gift cards for a needy family as well as gifts.
The essay contest has in the past been open for any insurance-related topic, but this year because of the high number of accidents involving teen drivers we might want to focus on that. All agreed this was a good idea. She will distribute this to the schools via e-mail.

Steve Smith, Membership, will try to get in touch with contacts at companies to contact members. He will also see if Jim Breech will sign a football to give out with the Ken Griffey Jr. signed items.

Julie Kadnar, President Elect, reported that the Cincinnati Insurance Festival was on track. She and Jim Meyer are visiting IASA to talk to them about what the CPCU designation entails; they will give us their mailing list for the Insurance Festival.

4. Project InVest

Brian asked if anyone would be willing to take this on. Nancy remarked that back in the '80s the Insurance Women's Groups were active; perhaps we could approach them to help. Rex Fledderjohn volunteered to tackle the project.

5. Chapter bylaws/charter update

Bernie Nachtrab, Treasurer, has not been able to connect with Eli to work on the chapter bylaws but will do so. The three $1,000 checks for the scholarships will be matched by $3,000 from the Loman foundation. He will have the $800 check to Insuring the Children ready for presentation at the dinner.

6. Connections visit/Hugh McGowan

Brian's visit to Ohio Casualty Group was cancelled. Either he or Sharyn will contact EMC to see about a visit. What about American Modern? A Past President, Sue Lindemood, is employed there.
Brian talked to Ron Eveleigh and our e-mail list is out of date (Steve Smith has put together a current one). We need to be able to check off e-mails that bounce back-Steve will take this on. Jim Henry and Bernie Nachtrab will help. Lynn Dassel has volunteered to help out occasionally on a project.
Brian noted that CIB has a new service provider and mailings are limited to batches of fifty, so we will have to break down the list into manageable numbers.

7. Next Newsletter

The next newsletter will be out late this month or early next month. Brian will put in an article about the annual meeting and the November 11th conferment dinner. Bob Braun will send something in on the scholarship winners and ask Bob Nottingham to bring in a camera for pictures to post on our Web site.

8. Circle of Excellence

We reviewed the activities and many officers/board members agreed to take them on. Some activities will be given more thought.

The meeting adjourned at 9:00. The next meeting will be Friday December 5, at 7:30 A.M.
